A woman was attacked and robbed of her handbag by a thug.
The 30-year-old was crossing the footbridge over the M8, leading to Rosemount Street in Royston, when she was attacked from behind on Sunday at around 6.05am.
She was thrown to the ground by the suspect who tried to grab her handbag. The woman put up a struggle but eventually he managed to snatch it from her grasp. She suffered minor injuries to her hand and knee.
The suspect made off and was last seen running past the low rise flats in Rosemount Street. The victim chased him for a short distance.
The bag was later recovered in a grassy area of Rosemount Street with personal items. However, a two figure sum of money had been stolen.
The suspect is described as aged 25–30, around 5ft 9ins tall and slim built with black hair. He was wearing dark blue jeans, dark jacket and white trainers. He had a black scarf covering his face.
Detective Constable Alan Watt at Pollok Robbery Unit is appealing for witnesses. He said: “Although it was early on a Sunday morning, I know of two people who probably saw the suspect but may not have seen the assault.
“The first potential witness was a woman of Chinese appearance. She was wearing a white anorak and carrying a white bag. It is believed that she had been walking behind the suspect prior to the attack.
“The second potential witness is a man who walked onto the footbridge from James Nisbet Street. He may also have seen the suspect.
“I would ask these individuals to come forward as they may have information which may assist this investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Pollok Robbery Unit on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
