Police warn about dangers of laser pens being directed at planes.

The police are reminding people not to shine laser pens at aircraft because it could have ‘catastrophic consequences’.

Their warning comes after they received a report from a pilot at the weekend that a green laser was directed at the aircraft as he was flying over Bearsden (near Asda supermarket) on Saturday, June 25 at 10.50pm.

Constable Stuart Cairns from Kirkintilloch Police Office, said: “Use of a laser pen in this manner is extremely reckless and could have catastrophic consequences for the person distracted, who in this case, was the pilot of an aircraft.

“It could even cause a pilot to lose control of a plane.

“We would urge people with these type of devices not to misuse them and we’d like to remind people that the police and the courts take matters such as this very seriously.”

Police enquiries are ongoing and they would appreciate any information from members of the public that may help with their investigation, please contact Kirkintilloch Police Office by calling 101.
