Poor reception for phone mast bid in Kirkintilloch

MORE than 180 residents have lodged objections to plans to install a mobile phone mast near their homes.

Communications company Vodafone want to build a 14.8m shared mast and telecommunications base station at 31 Glasgow Road, Kirkintilloch.

The mast will provide 2G and 3G coverage.

It will also replace 2G coverage lost by the removal of an O2 base station near Adamslie Park.

Councillors on the planning board will carry out a site visit before making a decision on the application.

Thomas Glen, head of planning at East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “A request was made for a site visit to allow elected members to further consider the implications and merits of the proposed development application.

“The site visit will take place on 18 September and thereafter be considered by the board”

A planning application submitted last year to build a bigger mast in the area was unsuccessful.
