FURIOUS shops claim they have been left in the dark after a power cut in Kirkintilloch town centre.

Retailers are blaming East Dunbartonshire Council for not allowing ScottishPower contractors to close off the road.

The lights went out in more than 25 Kirkintilloch town centre businesses, in Cowgate and Catherine Street, at around 11am on Wednesday, January 4.

Council chiefs eventually gave the go-ahead on Thursday morning, leading to Cowgate being shut off for the majority of the day - causing traffic jams and further disruption to business.
