Pupils with a healthy appetite for learning

Things were cooking good at Harestanes Primary School in Kirkintilloch last week when the Healthier Scotland Cooking Bus arrived in town.

The Healthier Scotland Cooking Bus Programme, launched in 2008 is funded by the Scottish Government and the Food Standards Agency Scotland.

The aim is to encourage healthy eating by enhancing pupils’ cooking skills and knowledge of nutrition, food hygiene and safety.

A spokesperson for the healthier cooking bus added: “and it’s not only for the schoolchildren. Teachers, parents and others in the community can learn about the benefits and the importance of cooking as a life skill.
