STEER clear of a popular country walkway – that’s the message to reckless bikers.
Penny Sinclair, a member of Strathkelvin Ramblers, was walking recently on the Strathkelvin Walkway, near Lennoxtown, when she was confronted by several of the vehicles.
She said: “I had heard engine noise coming from Lennox Forest for about 10 minutes and had just stopped to speak to a young couple.
“We then saw three or four huge quad bikes coming from the direction of Strathblane.
“They had to slow down to avoid us, but were still going too fast for me to read their registration number.
“They missed hitting us by inches.
“I don’t know what would have happened if there had been a mum with a toddler or a pram.
“I was left quite scared by the experience and if they are allowed to continue driving on the footpath I think it will certainly put walkers off using it.”
A spokesperson for Kirkintilloch Police told the Herald that officers using off-road bikes would be keeping an eye on the walkway.
