The family of a man who died aged just 32 from a brain tumour are collecting money next week to mark the 10th anniversary of his death.

Graham McKie was a healthy young man when he developed a sore head with sickness on December 26 in 2005.

He was initially diagnosed with a migraine, but with continued sickness and rapid weight loss he was admitted into the Western Infirmary for tests.

The following day he was transferred to The Southern General Hospital, which deals with brain conditions, and the doctors discovered that Graham needed major surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.

A biopsy also found that he was suffering from an inoperable and incurable Grade 4 Glioblastoma brain tumour. He passed away just seven months later.

His mum and dad Rachel and Donald from Milngavie are asking people who knew Graham to come along to Dobbie’s Garden Centre in Bearsden and help them to raise money in his memory for The Brain Tumour Charity.

Donald said: “Graham amazed us with his tremendous positive attitude, calmness and an amazing ‘peace’, and he helped us all to hold it together which was extremely difficult as we could not really believe this was happening to him.

“He showed such tremendous bravery and courage way beyond his years asking if he could go home, which was granted the following day.

“We were blessed to call Graham our son, brother, uncle and he was so much more to so many people.

“We thank God for his life and fo the way he touched our lives.”

Graham’s sister Sharyn brought her wedding forward so that he could perform his duties as usher.

His family will be at Dobbie’s from Monday, August 8 to Sunday, August 14 from 10am to 4.30pm each day.

They will also be releasing some balloons at the garden centre on the 10th anniversary (Thursday, August 11) at 4.15pm.

Rachel said: “We are asking friends and family to support us and take time for reflection to remember Graham who is sorely missed from our everyday lives.

“We look forward to seeing everyone and for those who are unable to come but they’d still like to give some money our justgiving page will open on Sunday, August 7.

“Your help, love and support to us as a family is very much appreciated.”
