Residents in North Lanarkshire are up in arms over proposals to build thousands of homes in their communities.
Hundreds of people have attended meetings in Stepps, Auchinloch and Moodiesburn to oppose changes to North Lanarkshire Council’s Finalised Draft Local Plan, after the Scottish Government gave developers the right to appeal against it.
Over 8000 new homes could be built across 39 sites in villages including Moodiesburn, Stepps, Auchinloch, Chryston and Muirhead if the changes are passed.
Further meetings will be held by Chryston Community Council at 7.30pm in Muirhead Hall on Wednesday, August 3 and Stepps Community Council at 8pm on Monday, August 15 in Stepps Cultural Centre.
Residents have until Monday (August 1) to object, whilst the Community Council deadline is August 29.
Sites in the following villages will be part of the consultation:
- Burnbrae Road
- Langmuirhead Road
- Lanrigg Holdings
- Lindsaybeg Road
- Main Street
- Millbrae Road
- Gartferry Road
- Crowwood Golf Club
- Station Road
- Woodhead Farm
