Residents say they are being kept in the dark about hub plans

RESIDENTS have blasted council chiefs for keeping them in the dark about controversial plans for a community hub in their town.

Bishopbriggs Community Council and Bishopbriggs Town Team say they are concerned that proposals for the Bishopbriggs community hub were discussed in private by East Dunbartonshire Council at a meeting last month.

The groups say the plans will affect the whole community and are calling on the council to make their proposals public as soon as possible.

A spokesperson for the community council said: “The council really needs to quickly sit down with the community and tell them what their aspirations are for the hub to see if they match the views of the community.

“It sends out the wrong signals that there has been no discussion with the community and the first meeting about the hub has been held in private.

“The hub should be a good news story, but the council does not appear to be going about it in the correct manner.

“It is for the community so they should be involved at the earliest possible stage.”

The council began work on its first hub in Kirkintilloch’s William Patrick Library (pictured above) last month.
