A team of council workers have landed an award after teaming up with local groups to transform a muddy cycle path.
North Lanarkshire Council’s roads strategy and safety team won the Environment category at the local authority’s recent corporate awards ceremony.
It was in recognition of their work on the Auchinloch to Lenzie cyclepath, which was developed with Auchinloch Primary School staff and pupils and cosely involved Auchinloch and Lenzie community councils, Lenzie Golf Club, Lenzie Estates, East Dunbartonshire Council and charity Sustrans.
The formerly narrow, muddy path often became impassable for days when the Gadloch flooded but it now provides an important link between two communities, as well as access to shops, school, and train and bus services.
Gavin Whitefield, the council’s chief executive, said: “It’s important that we recognise the good work taking place in workplaces throughout our area and this small ceremony is a good way of doing that.
“This year’s award winners should be proud of the difference they are making to the lives of so many people in our communities – well done to all of them.”
