Security fears at Kirkintilloch flats after vandals target entry system

VANDALS are making life a misery for tenants in a block of council-owned flats, it was claimed this week.

Residents say the property, in Eastside, Kirkintilloch, has no secure entry system, leaving the close open to vandals.

Resident Mary Campbell told the Herald: “I’ve been here for more than two years and we’ve never had any secure entry on the entry door.

“Other people have told me that it’s been like this for eight years.

“All sorts of people end up in the close, and it’s constantly being vandalised. Nobody ever seems to do anything about it.”

Grace Irvine, East Dunbartonshire Council’s head of assets and property services, said: “This property in Eastside does have a security entry system installed, although it is continuously vandalised.

“Ongoing repairs are being carried out.

“To try to allieviate the issue, the council is looking into installing a more robust door entry system in the new financial year.”
