Selfish dog owners blight school’s Jubilee celebrations

TEACHERS have hit out at selfish dog owners who fail to clean up after their pets.

Staff at Lenzie Primary say several pupils were left with dog mess on their feet, hands and legs after they went to Ingleside Park as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Head teacher Janice Thomson, who was shocked to find dog mess on her feet and knee, says that she would think twice about returning to the public park with pupils.

She said: “It was really bad - so bad that when we got back to the school I went around to check on the children and 12 of them had stepped in it.

“It spoils the children’s fun and it’s a real health hazard. The event was fantastic but this put a tiny dampener on it, which was a real shame.

“I just wish people would clear up after their dogs.”

To coincide with National Poop Scoop Week 2012, which starts on Monday, June 11, East Dunbartonshire Council is launching a zero tolerance campaign aimed at irresponsible dog owners who allow their pets to foul without picking up.
