ORGANISERS of G66+ Live have erected signs beside seven artworks created by Canadian graffiti artist Roadsworth for its ‘Kirkintilloch 800 in the Street’ event recently.
The signs, which have been written by local historian Don Martin and supplied by Kenwil, provide information and a historical background to artworks depicting a range of topics including the Lion Foundry, Petticoat Dan and the breaking of the Market Cross.
The signs and stencils are set to remain on Kirkintilloch’s Main Street until the end of July.
Susan Murray, chairwoman of G66+ Live, said: “We’re really pleased. The art has crossed the generations, everybody is interested in it and we can’t always be there to answer the questions so the signs are the next best thing.
“We’ve got something that is really interesting and has really stimulated an interest in the history of the area. People want to know about the stories behind the stencils and that’s what we were trying to do.”
