SUPERMARKET giants have revealed how their planned new store could look in Bishopbriggs town centre.

Morrisons want to build a new superstore, petrol station and car park on the former Bishopbriggs High School site as part of a £40million development.

There’s also future plans to refurbish the Triangle Shopping Centre and the current store.

The supermarket giant has released a computer generated image of how the new store could look.

Morrisons said it has been working with East Dunbartonshire Council to “further enhance current planning application proposals”.

The changes include improving pedestrian links from the north side of the town centre to the new supermarket; alterations to the access road geometry to encourage lower driving speed and re-planning of the store entrance area as a consequence of increase to the size of lifts.

There would also be electric car charging points and dedicated covered cycle parking, and alterations have been made to the car park traffic flow to reduce possibility of bottle necks.

However, residents have raised concerns about the changes, including the increase of 2.3 metres in the height of the main entrance of the store, and say that an additional pedestrian crossing is not necessary.
