Sting in the tail – pest costs double

BOTHERED by rats, wasps, fleas or even squirrels – who you gonna call?

Most likely it will be East Dunbartonshire Council, but beware the cost of pest control services is set to double.

The council will be increasing the cost from £20 to £40 from April. It says the charge is in line with most other local authorities.

The service is available to all residents living in East Dunbartonshire and deals with problems relating to rats, wasps, fleas, bed bugs and, more recently, squirrels. However, the service can’t treat ant infestations, foxes, bees, snails, slugs, woodlice and birds, including pigeons.

However, advice is available for residents experiencing problems with some of these issues.

Councillor Amanda Stewart, convener of housing and community services, said: “The council offers a comprehensive pest control service to the public and these costs will cover the initial inspection and subsequent return visits to make sure the problem has been eradicated.

“If our pest control officers are unable to treat your specific problem, they will offer you advice and do their best to point you in the right direction to rid your home of unwanted pests or insects.”

Full details of the service can be found on the council’s website at www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk or call 0141 578 8814.
