Success of recovery cafe puts it in the running for top community honour

East Dunbartonshire
Recovery Café has been shortlisted for a prestigious Safer Communities Award.

The café, among 70 submissions, was one of only eight to go forward to the award finals in March - in the ‘Strengthening Community Engagement and Resilience’ category. The winning project will receive a £2,000 prize.

The awards are run by the Scottish Community Safety Network (SCSN).

Over 70 local people on a journey of recovery, including from drug or alcohol addiction, or a mental health issue, come together on the first Saturday of every month at the café held in Kirkintilloch Baptist Church Hall to socialise, share a meal and enjoy some entertainment.

Councillor Michael O’Donnell, Convener of East Dunbartonshire’s Social Work Committee, said: “I’m delighted the recovery cafe has been recognised in this way. It would be great if local people get behind this very worthwhile project.”
