Swimming sensation is going for gold at Special Olympics

Swimming ace Nicola Keppie will be competing in her third Special Olympics.

The 28-year-old will travel to the city of Bath on August 27 for the five day sporting event having been selected for the Scotland West squad.

Nicola been swimming since she was seven-years-old and became a member of Temple Swimming Club, which is now based in Dennistoun.

Nicola has gone on to achieve huge success winning many medals. She scooped gold, silver and bronze at the Special Olympics in Glasgow in 2005 and gold and silver at the event in Leicester in 2009.

The former Merkland School pupil said: “I burst into tears when I found out I would be going to the Special Olympics again. Hopefully I can win gold, the whole family has been wishing me luck.”

This weekend sees Nicola, from Kirkintilloch, travel to High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire to compete in the Down’s Syndrome British National Championships.
