DELIGHTED families enjoyed a day out with a difference recently as Clyde Cruising Club (CCC) Dinghy Section held an open day at Bardowie Loch.
The Dinghy Section has been sailing at Bardowie Loch for over 75 years.
The family-friendly club has over 350 members, from East Dunbartonshire and further afield.
They have a fleet of over 60 dinghies – from Optimists to Lasers 2000s – available for members to use throughout the season.
Competitive membership rates allow this sport to be enjoyed by all. Various membership packages are available from individual adult and child to family packages.
They have a team of dedicated instructors who help run evening classes, which cater for all ages from eight years upwards and all abilities. Club members help to maintain the boats and provide stewarding cover on the loch.
The loch is open every evening and at weekends for members to sail.
They also run a very successful summer school. Courses are held Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm. Lessons are run in accordance with the RYA Syllabus.
Summer school this year is running for six weeks from June 27.
For the competitive members the club holds weekly racing, every Thursday throughout the season.
The section has a modern clubhouse that was built in 2006. It was recently renovated due to a severe flood in December 2010.
The annual open day is held to encourage the public to have a go at sailing and also to see the fantastic facilities at Bardowie.
