POLICE are investigating the double stabbing of a youth in the Bishopbriggs area.

The Herald understands the 17-year-old was near the Auchinairn Tavern, in Auchinairn Road, when the attack happened at about 4pm on Friday.

It is thought that he had just left a friend’s house in nearby Myrtle Square when he was stabbed twice in the back.

Witnesses say that the victim was picked up by an ambulance, but his condition was not known as the Herald went to press.

One resident said: “There were police everywhere and Beech Road was completely blocked off. It’s terrible to think of something like this happening here – particularly at that time of the day.”

A police spokesperson confirmed: “We are aware of the incident which is currently the subject of an ongoing investigation.”

Meanwhile, police have been inundated with calls after the shooting of a man in Bishopbriggs on Christmas Eve.

The 23-year-old was rushed to hospital after being shot at around 12.30pm near Bishopbriggs Golf Range, in the town’s Crosshill Road. He has since been released.

Anybody with information is asked to contact Baird Street CID on 0141 532 4236.
