Tree forces walkers out into middle of the road

A MASSIVE tree root has been blamed for forcing people to walk on a busy country road.

The root on the verge of the road between Lennoxtown and Torrance has long been a source of concern - with residents having to walk onto the road to get around it.

However, despite numerous complaints to East Dunbartonshire Council, local residents say the problem remains.

One Lennoxtown resident said: “I saw some council people looking at it and thought they were going to finally sort it out, but nothing was done.”

He added: “It’s so dangerous to have to walk out onto the road.”

David Devine, the council’s head of roads and neighbourhood services, said: “The exposed tree root is to be removed as a matter of priority and the verge reinstated and made safe for pedestrians.”
