A HEALTH centre in Kirkintilloch has come under attack from vicious yobs.

In recent weeks vandals have caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage at the centre on the edge of Woodhead Park, in Kirkintilloch.

In the most recent attack five windows were smashed.

Last week Campsie and Kirkintilloch North councillor Charles Kennedy called on police to provide a “more visible presence” in the town centre.

Inspector Donald Leitch wrote to Councillor Kennedy insisting that extra patrols were being deployed in all town centres over the festive period.

He added: “With regards to the vandalism in and around the Cowgate area, there have been a few windows smashed in the last several months, with the Health Centre in Kirkintilloch having windows smashed on a couple of occasions.

“This locus in particular has been highlighted to officers for extra attention and shift supervisors have visited the centre and discussed the issues with staff.”

But Councillor Kennedy told the Herald: “I’ve never known there to be such a lack of police presence in the run up to Christmas.

“I walk down Cowgate and Townhead two or three times a day and never see any police.

“It’s leading to complete lawlessness, such as the vandalism at the health centre.

“After the holidays I will be seeking an urgent meeting with the police to address the situation.”
