AMBITIOUS plans to create a new home for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy have been given support from East Dunbartonshire Council.

Last week, the junior football club’s stadium project manager Colin Smith revealed in the Herald that “formal discussions” were in place with relevant authorities for the proposed ground at Kirkintilloch’s Luggie Park and that the project was “ready to come out of the starting blocks”.

Rob Roy plan to sell their existing Adamslie Park ground to housing developers.

Rhondda Geekie, the leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “The Council continues to support the club in its effort to secure its future within the community.”

But Councillor Geekie revealed the council are still waiting on receiving a planning application from the club.

She said: “I am aware of ongoing discussions that have taken place between Rob Roy and Council Officers, however, at this stage understand that no planning application has yet been submitted and it is a matter for the club when it will bring forward any application.”

Rob Roy stadium project manager Colin Smith was unavailable for comment before the Herald went to press.
