Work goes on to transform Kirkintilloch landmark into plush restaurant

EFFORTS to transform one of Kirkintilloch’s oldest buildings into a luxury restaurant, bar and delicatessen are gathering pace.

Contractors moved on-site recently to carry out extensive renovations to the former Eagle Inn premises, in the town’s Cowgate.

The 19th-century building, bought last year by Jacca Leisure, has previously been used as a hotel and post office but has lain empty since the council’s social work department moved out in 2010.

Jacca Leisure Limited is the trading name of the Di Ciacca family - who own a number of eateries in Bothwell and who chose Kirkintilloch over a number of possible locations for their latest venture, set to be called ‘Nonna’s Kitchen’.

Peter Di Ciacca told the Herald: “We are aiming to get the whole place wind and water tight by Christmas.

“If all goes to plan we should be finished mid-February, so realistically we are looking at opening in the first week of March.”
