A MULTI-million pound housing development is underway in Kirkintilloch.
The £2.1million scheme by Link Group will see 16 homes built in the Taig Road area which will be available for rent by March next year.
Link bought the site using funding provided by the Scottish Government, working with it and East Dunbartonshire Council on costs and timescales.
The homes are designed by MAST Architects of Glasgow and built by CCG,
The new development also includes a new play area with safe grass-mat surface to replace existing outdated equipment.
Link Group chief executive Craig Sanderson said: “These high-quality properties will contribute to alleviating the need for affordable homes in Kirkintilloch and we look forward to continuing to work with the local community and East Dunbartonshire Council as the development takes shape.”
Councillor Amanda Stewart, convener of the housing and communities committee, added: “I am confident that our partnership with Link will provide an excellent standard of accommodation in the Waterside area for people on the council’s waiting lists.
“These new rented homes will be built to varying needs standards, with one of the flats specifically designed to meet the needs of a wheelchair user.”
The homes tie in with East Dunbartonshire Council’s local housing plans.
