Six young gymnasts covered themselves in glory at a top competition – even although it was some of the contestants’ first outing.

The Bishopbriggs Acros Gymnastic girls were up against experienced competition at the even staged in Middlesbrough, and went all out to win in what turned out to be a hugely successful outing.

The Invitational Competition was the club’s first contest of the season, and several of the girls were competing for the first time alongside some of their more experienced colleagues.

In the Grade 5 women’s groups category Sophie Thomson, Codie Mcinally and Amy Hulmes performed two excellent routines to win bronze in the balance category and silver after their dynamic routine.

This was reckoned an excellent start to the weekend and, said the club’s Clare Langan, was followed by some other great routines from Bishopbriggs gymnasts.

More medal success for the club followed on the Sunday, rounding off a memorable weekend.

Hazel Howat, Ellie Lavy and Christina Hill dominated the Grade 6 women’s groups with gold medals for both of their routines. Clare said: “The girls performed incredibly well and hope to build on this success over the months to come.”

Bishopbriggs Acro Gymnastics Club is affiliated to the Scottish Gymnastics Association, the popular sport’s governing body,

The club caters for competitive and recreational gymnasts from the age of 5. Its aim is to promote acro gymnastics as both a competitive and recreational sport and make it as accessible as possible for those interested in participating.
