SUMMER is really sizzling for a terrific children’s project in Kirkintilloch which has scooped a cash boost from a top charity.

S.T.A.R. – a crèche for children up to five-years-old who are from lone-parent or low-income families – has been awarded £3,114 by Cash for Kids. The grant is being used to organise a summer programme for children and families.

A range of activities have been planned – from outdoor sports to arts and crafts classes for the older siblings of babies and toddlers who attend the crèche. It will also help the project bring in dance instructors and sports coaches to pass on top tips to the youngsters.

Mary Brown, creche co-ordinator at S.T.A.R., said: “We are delighted to receive this grant from Clyde 1 Clyde 2 Cash for Kids as it allows us to put on fun and enjoyable activities for the children who attend our crèche, and their siblings.

“During the holidays, we have found that encouraging siblings to come along has a positive effect on the children and allows parents to continue working without having the pressure of finding further childcare. Without this grant we wouldn’t have been able to offer so much to the children in the area.”

Graham Bryce, charity trustee, said: “We are delighted to award this Kirkintilloch organisation with our summer grant.”
