JOHN Brown has no intention of having to orchestrate yet another Great Escape at Clyde this season.
The Bully Wee gaffer arrived in January at a club languishing second bottom in the league and seemingly destined for the drop down to Division Two.
However, after a nerve-racking relegation play-off win over Airdrie secured his side's place in t
he First Division, the former Rangers, Dundee and Hamilton stopper has his sights set on a much higher league position.
'Bomber' said: "It was tough coming to a club and trying to get to know the squad while trying to get them to survive in the league.
"But now that we're still in the First Division, I want to make sure we are as far from the relegation play-offs as possible.
"No one at the club wants to go through that again so there has had to be some changes.
"There seemed to be too many players last season who accepted second best, so we've cleared the decks a little and now have a squad who are hungry for success and really want to advance the club."
Stuart Kettlewell, Alan Trouten, Willie McLaren, Marc McCusker, Ricky Waddell, Mark Brown and Michael Ohnesorge have all been added to the Clyde ranks.
The majority of the signings play either in midfield or up front, as Brown aims to sort out the problems he noticed his team sometimes had in the final third of the pitch.
The intention seems to be working so far, with Clyde scoring 12 and only conceding four goals in pre-season, results which included a narrow 1-0 defeat to a strong Rangers side.
Brown said: "We have all these new players and a team which has to get used to playing alongside each other pretty quickly.
"But, even though we still have a bit of work to do in the final third, it has been going well and we three good results against sides down south to prove that.
"Against Rangers, we were well organised, kept the ball and passed it about well. We didn't fear them, and it is that kind of mentality I want to stick with the players.
"I don't think we deserved to lose and a draw would definitely have been a fair result."
Brown added he was delighted to see his former Rangers team mates - Brian Laudrup, Jorg Albertz and Artur Numan - lining up for Clyde against their old team in front of a packed Broadwood.
He said: "The reason I got Brian, Jorg and Artur to come along was to try and sell the place out, and the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic.
"They thoroughly enjoyed meeting up again and playing against their former team.
"Those guys are still great footballers but, because they are older, we did have another eight players doing all the running for them!"
