MORE than 300 athletes took part in Bishopbriggs' first ever triathlon on Sunday.
The inaugural GTC Krystal Klear Bishopbriggs Sprint Triathlon saw competitors each complete a swim and a cycle, followed by a run, and Milton of Campsie's Kirsty McWilliam was in great form in the sprint event.

While it was clear that partic
ipants found the race challenging, the over-riding atmosphere around the course was of enjoyment and inclusion.

The event, organised by the Glasgow Triathlon Club, was aimed at a wide range of ages and experience.

There were several lengths of triathlon on the day, including a youth distance, a novice race and the sprint itself.

Competitors first swam between 200m and 750m the Leisuredrome. They then completed a bike ride of either 5k, 10k or 20k. The run along the Forth and Clyde canal was 2k, 3k or 5k.

First across the line in the youth age 11/12 category was Jack Austin, of GTC.

In the youth age 13/14 event, the first boy home was GTC's Mark Austin, and the first girl was Erin McLeod, of JETS.

The youth age 15/16 competition saw Peter Anderson, of Fleet Feet Tri Club, triumph, while Stirling Tri Club's Eilidh Hargreaves was first girl home .

The adult novice event was won by James Kinsella. Amie Reid, of Williamwood High School, won the women's section.

In the sprint, Stirling Triathlon Club's Andy Turnbull triumphed in a time of one hour, four minutes and 20 seconds.

Second overall and the first woman home, just 10 seconds later, was 18-year-old McWilliam, of GTC.
