Medal joy for Lenzie athletes
TALENTED young athletes from Lenzie Academy have been in outstanding form at three prestigious events.
The school won a host of medals at the Dunbarton Schools Sports Championships at Grangemouth, between June 3-10.
Lenzie athletes picked up an amazing 26 gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze medals at the annual event, for S1-S5 students.
The outstanding performance was by Chloe Lambert. The S2 pupil won 200m gold and set a new championship best performance time of 26.5 seconds.
She was also awarded the Hudson Scott Memorial for the most meritorious performance.
Lenzie's girls S2 relay team also recorded a new championship best time of 53.1 seconds.
There was also a new triathlon event for senior pupils at this year's competition.
Lenzie's John Ruddy (S5) was the first athlete to be awarded the Jim Burns Challenge Cup for the senior boys triathlon.
There was also success for three S4 pupils. Scott Wilson won a silver medal, Jennifer Hannah claimed silver in the senior girls triathlon and Victoria Walker claimed bronze.
And there was more success for Lenzie's under-15 girls and boys teams at the Scottish Schools Relay Championships, also held at Grangemouth, on Saturday, June 7.
The S2 girls under-15 runners maintained their outstanding form by producing the only badge standard performance on the day.
They also won the Elizabeth Thomson Group C trophy and the Mildred Storrer Cup for the most meritorious performance of the championship.
Lenzie's team members were Deborah Hannah, Andrea Gaffney, Heather Stewart, Chloe Lambert and reserve Rhiannon Carmichael.
The S2 boys under-15 team also performed well to secure bronze in a strongly contested final.
The team members were Greig Chesney, Graham Roberts, Jacob Dymond and Jack Gordon.
