TALENTED athlete Kris Robertson has no intention of spending the next Olympics sitting at home on the sofa.
The 4x400 metres World Junior Relay bronze-medalist will be cheering on the Great British team with the rest of the country during coverage of this month's games in Beijing.

However, the 20-year-old from Bishopbriggs is keen to make up for the dis
appointment of missing out this year by earning a spot in the team for the 2012 games in London.

Kris said: "I came ninth at the Olympic trials which isn't great but at least it is a step in the right direction.

"I'm not sure why I didn't race better and it will be tough watching on TV as I have ran consistently faster than one of the guys they have taken to the Olympics.

"I admit I'm disappointed but, at the same time, it was good experience and I can now concentrate on trying to get to London as an individual rather than as part of the relay team.
"I also have the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to think about. Competing in Glasgow would be amazing so that is definitely a big aim."

Kris, a member of Kirkintilloch Olympians, is already making good progress towards his Olympic goal.

He recently smashed his personal best by half-a-second to record a time of 46.55 seconds, and is preparing for both the Scottish and British championships.

Kris said: "It had been four years since I set a new PB and I think a lot of people were wondering what was going on.

"But, after I broke it, I ran under 47 seconds again which shows it wasn't just a blip in my system.

"That really gives me the self-confidence to try and run even faster and makes me number one in Scotland by a good margin."
