BISHOPBRIGGS Academy pupil Ross Russell was in outstanding form in the under-15 Scotland disability squad as the team trounced the opposition at a recent Home Nations tournament.
Scotland won all their games, even beating the host nation Northern Ireland 2-1, and went on to win the tournament.

Ross (14), of Beaufort Gardens, Bishopbriggs, suffers from right side hemiplegia – a mild form of cerebral palsy which has affected his right arm and leg.

Mum Lorna said: "I'm so proud of him, he just lets nothing bring him down. This was the first time Ross has travelled away from home to play and for the team to win all their games is just such an achievement.

"His P.E. teacher recommended he try out for the Scotland squad and just two years later he is playing in the Home Nations, it's incredible."

Ian Donaghey, P.E. teacher at Bishopbriggs Academy, said: "What Ross has achieved is fantastic. He is really quiet and unassuming, just an all-round nice guy – he hasn't even been telling people about his achievement.

"He performed really well although he beat my own country, Northern Ireland, which I wasn't too happy about!"
