TRACK stars of the future braved the wind and the rain to put in some brilliant performances at the ScottishPower primary schools' road relay championships.
Primary school children aged between nine and 11 from across the country competed at the recent event in Grangemouth.
Among the athletes were youngsters from Balmuildy and St. Matthew's, who all put in brilliant performances.
The children from Balmuildy were celebrating after their P6 boys scooped gold and the P7 boys won silver.
The event was part of a year-long calendar of athletics activity which focuses on encouraging youngsters to ditch their computer games in a bid to save energy and stay healthy.
Jim Paterson, ScottishPower sales and marketing director, said: "Many of these young stars are just starting out on the path to school sports and it's great to see them doing sports instead of wasting energy watching television or playing computers.
"This challenge gives youngsters the chance to take part in major events and gives them a taste of competition, which might spur them on to even greater things.
Jamie McDonald, youth development manager, at scottishathletics said: "Athletics is such a rewarding and enjoyable activity to take part in and the youngsters who attended the event on Saturday proved this.
"We were delighted with the turnout on the day and would like to thank sponsors, ScottishPower, event organisers and all supporters who made the effort to come along and support the kids."
