A talented teenager is looking to take the world of judo by storm.

David Ferguson (17), from Bishopbriggs, was introduced to the martial art when Pro Judo club head coach Brian Long visited Bishopbriggs Academy to give pupils a taster session.

Eight years later he’s joined Brian at Pro Judo for a modern apprenticeship, hoping to combine coaching with a burgeoning success in judo championships.

The black belt has already landed Scottish titles at several different age groups and has been part of Judo Scotland’s development programme for the past three years.

Coach Brain said: “He’s done his coaching qualifications and is currently training for competitions as well.

“He’s not ready for the Commonwealth Games next year but in 2018 he could easily be representing Scotland.
