A renowned kickboxing promoter has signed up a local fighter after identifying him as one of the stars of the future.

Andrew Primrose (21), from Bishopbriggs, attracted the attention of Scottish fight boss Vinnie McWilliams when he impressed during competitive bouts of Muay Thai boxing - a martial art which is growing in popularity across the UK.

The former Bishopbriggs Academy pupil is now signed up to a £6,000 three-fight deal and Vinnie believes that he has what it takes to succeed in the tough sport.

He’s already organised a place for Andrew in an elite eight-man ‘K-1’ tournament in December.

Vinnie told the Herald “I am proud to secure the signing of Andrew as I believe he has the potential to be real star in the sport.

“I have been keeping a close eye on his recent performances and think he will be a massive addition to our current stable of fighters.

“It’s one fight at a time but I’m sure Andrew will be competing at British level very soon.

Andrew has been interested in the sport since he was 13 but only started training seriously a couple of years ago.

He said: “I’ve had about five professional fights but this is definately a game changer. Vinnie will be able to get me bigger and better fights which I will need to progress.”
