THE funeral of a footballer who captained Rob Roy in the 1950s has been held in San Francisco.
Desmond Connor passed away in San Francisco on June 19 at the age of 80.
He was born in Glasgow in 1932 and was the Rob Roy skipper before moving to San Francisco in his late 20s.
The master carpenter was a huge Celtic fan and was friends with many of the Lisbon Lions – who he proudly watched win the European Cup in 1967.
He continued to play football when he moved to the USA, running out for local teams including the Greek Americans and San Francisco Scots.
Desmond is survived by two older brothers, Jackie and George, who still live in Scotland.
His funeral was held last month at St Ignatius Church, San Francisco.
