Campsie Black Watch 5
Watch’s performance in this league game at Nether Pollok on Saturday was greatly improved from the previous fixtures.
Arthurlie, who have changed, their name from Glasgow Amateurs did not offer the same competition as the other sides and have obviously plenty of work ahead for this season.
Blackies were allowed to play quality football with every player at their best.
Last season’s midfield players Jordan Mcguire and Greg Peebles were welcomed back after long injuries.
Watch went ahead in the 13th minute when a Cunningham pass from midfield released Savarese who raced through on goal to lift the ball over keeper Kelly’s outstretched hands.
Arthurlie’s attacks were quickly turned around from Watch’s strong defenders McCluskey, Ketterer, Graham and Pettigrew, with keeper Storey not being called into action very often.
It was 2-0 in the 25th minute, with Peebles’ pass to Wright on the left finding McWilliams. His strike came off the keeper and Watch’s striker Kelly back headered the ball into the net.
Kelly again was on the mark in the 41st minute, as he headed home from a McWilliams’ cross to make it three.
The home players offered very little in troubling Watch defenders and after the interval Blackies continued to give the home side many problems.
Savarese made it 4-0 in the 64th minute, following a neat, free-flowing move.
McCluskey found Kelly down the right who then went past two defenders before crossing for strike partner Savarese to net from close range.
Four minutes later Mcguire, back after an injury from last season, the talented midfield player, again down the right a Martin Storey kick out weaved his way past defenders to blast the ball from 25 yards past the keeper.
Watch players must move on from this impressive display, they will find tougher opposition ahead, but without doubt they have many talented players to meet the challenge.
Watch play Arsenal 19s in a friendly match (Wednesday, September 10) at Merkland astro grass with a 7pm kick off.
They then return to league action this Saturday with a clash with Antonine at Station Road at 2pm.
