Bishopbriggs side celebrate victory over the Vics - video

A FIVE-goal thriller on Saturday saw Rossvale FC triumph over Blantyre Victoria and record another win.

It was a game of missed chances, depleted numbers and three goals for the home side.

Chris Cadman scored twice and came close to a hat-trick, while Alan Sime netted a wonder strike in the 3-2 victory.

It was all the more impressive as Rossvale’s numbers were depleted due to suspensions and holidays. In fact, the Bishopbriggs side only had two subs on the bench.

Gaffer Ian Gray said: “We played well considering we were a good few players short. It was an excellent result. It keeps us in sixth place in the league.”

Vale scored after 15 minutes and Gray reckons they could have been 4-0 up before the interval.

However, on the stroke of half-time, Rossvale gave away a sloppy goal after a mix-up at the back.

But a peach of a goal from Alan Sime put Rossvale back in front after an hour.

Blantyre Victoria equalised eight minutes from time after a corner.

However, within three minutes, Vale were back in front thanks to Cadman.

Despite spurning further goal chances, which would have killed off the match, Rossvale held on to record the win.

Impressively that means that improving Rossvale have beaten another team who, earlier in the season, beat them.

It also makes it six league victories out of eight games – championship form if sustained over a season.

Saturday sees Vale away to Royal Albert – a side humbled by Rob Roy in a 10-0 thrashing on Saturday.

But Gray insists: “I’m not paying any attention to the result on Saturday. It was a freak result. We can’t take any team for granted. There isn’t much between all the teams in the league.

“We need to be at our best. There’s no way we can afford to treat anybody lightly.”
