Campsie Black Watch 3

Port Glasgow BC 0

Following disappointing early season results Watch got back on the winning trail with this Birdston Kennels League Cup game against a very promising Port Glasgow Boys Club side.

Watch made the breakthrough in the fourth minute. A Punter pass down the right found Murray, who quickly played the ball on to Savarese and he played it into the middle of the goal for Welsh to turn the ball past keeper Roe.

Blackies might have gone further ahead but Irvine’s controlled strike crashed against the post.

The visitors were quick on the break with McBride and Ross keeping the Watch defence busy, and keeper Storey had to be at his best to prevent Ross from netting.

This was an exciting cup tie with Blackies the stronger team, although they did not score the all important second goal until the 64th minute.

Wright played a short corner to Punter and his perfect ball in found Kelly, who headed powerfully past keeper Roe form 12-yards.

The fine weather had brought out many spectators to Station Road, in Lennoxtown, and with the pitch once again in good condition this was an exciting tie and one that saw Watch players determined to secure a victory.

The third goal came in the 88th minute and it was superb.

In the build up McCamley passed to Welsh and he passed to McWilliams out on the right. The wingback’s cross saw Kelly fire the ball past the helpless keeper.

There is a long way to go for Watch to get that team work necessary to be successful, but the signs are much better with this win.

Watch play Claremont FC in the Scottish Cup second round on Saturday at Station Road, 2pm kick off.
