Lenzie YC Community Cup Final

A dazzling first-half display saw the home side run out deserved winners on their new astro pitch.

Playing incisive, passing football, Lenzie took the lead with a Callum Groom penalty and Scott Cumming then doubled his side’s advantage after bursting through from midfield.

With the Lenzie defence in commanding form, the action continued at the visitors’ end and goal number three arrived when Ben Graham’s centred pass was knocked in by Lewis Beveridge.

Soon afterwards, Graham turned scorer as his 12-yarder put the Dark Blues 4-0 ahead at half-time.

To their credit, St Ninian’s came out resolutely after the break and striker Martin McDermott pulled one back.

Lenzie were far from finished, however, and further goals from Beveridge and Greg Burns took their tally to six before a late strike from Aiden Carey brought some consolation for the away side.

Ian Stevenson of Lenzie YC presented the Community Cup trophy to Academy captain Jonnie Walker and praised both teams for an excellent game of schools football.

Jack Kennedy was the Lenzie Academy Player of the Day.

RESULT: The Lenzie team are pictured above with their trophy.
