Rossvale’s under-16s are through to the Scottish Cup final after a dramatic extra-time semi-final victory.
Rossvale travelled through to Bathgate Thistle’s ground for the semi against a Fauldhouse United side who currently lead the Lothian league.
The game started at a frantic pace as both teams attempted to assert themselves leading to early half chances at both ends of the park.
The large crowd were on their feet early on as a great free kick by Stanaird beat Finnie to put Fauldhouse in front.
Fauldhouse were now playing with more energy and confidence and following sustained pressure they were awarded a penalty which was saved by the excellent Finnie.
This gave the Rossvale team a boost and Holland, McBrearty and Glover were now in control of midfield.
However Rossvale struggled to offer a threat on goal despite the work rate of Robbie Brown up front.
Nevertheless the back line of Fowler, McLuskie, McCrae and Martin were holding firm when asked against a strong Fauldhouse attack and the score remained 1-0 at the break.
Rossvale took control of the second period early on and were unlucky not to score when Chrissy McLeod fired a great shot just wide of the target.
Keir Thomson was causing panic in the Fauldhouse defence and won a penalty when he skipped through several tackles before being brought to the ground illegally.
Calum Holland struck the penalty well and was unlucky when the ball came off the woodwork.
This setback didn’t disrupt the Rossvale boys who continued to press Fauldhouse at every opportunity however were struggling to get the equaliser.
With the game moving into injury time Holland crossed to the back post to the energetic Traynor who headed the ball home to the delight of his team mates and the large travelling support.
The match now moved into extra-time where Rossvale kept control and scored through Holland and another goal for Traynor to book their place against Albion United from Aberdeen at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium on Sunday, May 1, at 2.30pm.
