Under 19s League

It was a perfect day and a perfect start for the young Watch. McLoone made a pass to Prentice, who slipped the ball into space for McLoone to race into the box and play a one-two with Aitken before smashing the ball home from eight yards.

An outstanding goal with only eight minutes gone. On the 14th minute Rory Finlayson had the visitors thinking it was going to be a hard afternoon. A throw-in on the left was flighted in by McDowall and the ball was met by Finlayson, who jumped above all the Villa defenders to send a powerful header into the top right-hand corner of the net to give keeper Bain no chance.

With half an hour played Campsie went further ahead. Cousland and McArthur worked the ball out of defence and Cousland picked out O’Conner, who turned his man on the centre spot. He fired a low pass for Aitken to race clear and slip the ball past the oncoming keeper and into the back of the net.

With 40 minutes on the clock Campsie got themselves a free-kick 20 yards out from goal. Haddow stood over the ball and sent a side pass for Finlayson to smack a right-foot shot low through the wall. The ball roared into the right-hand side of the net to make it 4-0.

All credit to Villa, after the break they came out with a good attitude and kept fighting. However, Camspie’s work rate off the ball was superb and great chances fell to O’Halloran and Aitken.

However, good goalkeeping and desperate defending kept the score down.

On the 75th minute Nicky Prentice scored a wonder goal when McLoone and Prentice exchanged a combination of passes down the right wing. Prentice cut inside, weaved through a host of Villa defenders and thundered a right-foot shot high into the net. Even the visitors’ support enjoyed the skill of the winger.

It was yet another great result for the young Watch which puts them top of the table.

Birdston Kennels man-of-the-match was Rory Finlayson.

Team: Darroch, McLoone, McDowall, Cousland, McArthur, Finlayson, Prentice, Auld, O’Conner, Haddow, Aitken, O’Halloran, Mitchell, Reid, Kerr.
