HOT-shot striker Alan Sime helped Rossvale find their winning stride by scoring a hat-trick on Saturday.

Sime played the lone striker to score the opener in the second half, but Newmains United soon equalised at Petershill Park.

Striker Tony McDermott was then brought on as a substitute, with Sime shifting to play a left midfield position.

The move by manager Ian Gray paid off with Sime notching up another two goals for his side.

Chairman Ian Grey said: “It was quite a good game in the first half and there were chances for both sides.

“Sime had a good game and we didn’t expect him to score from the left midfield position but he did.

“Ross Hepburn also had a good game and had a few bursts from the midfield which kept the match going.”

The Vale also won a friendly against amateur side Auldhouse last Wednesday with another 3-1 scoreline.

Grey believes this game helped Saturday’s result, adding: “This match helped iron out the rustiness amongst the players.”

The Vale are continuing to adapt to their relatively new junior status, boosting the squad with new centre back Simon Fraser and right back Chris Docherty.

Grey said: “We are still looking to build a more solid team and we have brought in new players.

“We were given such a short time to develop the team at the start of the season and I think we have done well.

“The coaching staff have done really well in putting a team together,”

Rossvale next face Lesmahagow Juniors at Petershill Park at 2pm on Saturday.
