Injury-ravaged Rabs already preparing for next season
Jimmy Lindsay
WINTER weather might have given Rob Roy a day off on Saturday, but gaffer Jimmy Lindsay is using his time wisely.
He said: “We’ve signed about eight players for next season so that’s a real positive and means we’ll start from a far better point than we did this season.”
Rob Roy take on Arthurlie this Saturday at Dunterlie Park. Kick-off is at 2pm.
Arthurlie currently lie in eighth place but, such is the closeness of the league, a win would put them just a single point behind Rabs with a game in hand.
Lindsay said: “This weekend we have Arthurlie in the league who beat us by a single goal the last time we played them.
“It’ll be a tough match, but I believe we can get something out of it. We’re three or four wins away from complete safety and hopefully this will be the first.
“The league is so close that every game is crucial to both teams.”
Last Saturday’s league game against Ashfield was scrapped after the pitch was deemed unplayable – a decision which came as a relief to Rabs gaffer Jimmy Lindsay.
He told the Herald: “We’ve got quite a few injuries at the moment, including Steven Bennett who we had on loan from Cowdenbeath.
“He’s had to go back to his club for treatment which is a real disappointment because he has performed really well in the couple of games he’s run out in.
“There’s another four or five injuries as well as Bennett which means we are back to the way we were at the start of the season with only one substitute on the bench. Obviously it isn’t ideal.”
Rabs have continued to play well in friendlies – last week they trounced a Clyde XI squad 6-1 at Bathgate Sports Centre – but have had difficulties replicating their form in competitive games.
Lindsay, who hopes to make a few new signings in the coming weeks, said: “We are doing terrifically when we’re playing on astroturf, but we’re not so good on grass for whatever reason.”
