FAILURE to make countless clear cut goal-scoring opportunities count meant that Rob Roy had to share the points with an industrious Cumnock side.

Rabs had the better of the early exchanges, In the sixth minute Cumnock keeper Waterson gave away a needless corner, but redeemed himself by punching clear Love’s corner in a crowded goalmouth.

Three minutes later the home side took the lead when McAleenan sent a cross into the penalty box where skipper Jordan Smith was waiting to crash a header high past Waterson.

Mackie should have doubled Rabs’ lead in the 12th minute when through on goal, but fired his low shot straight at the Cumnock keeper. Minutes later Diack failed to hit the target.

Cumnock looked dangerous on the break with Connolly testing Robertson from distance. Then from a Wild pass Tyler shot over the bar.

The visitors were gifted an equaliser in the 42nd minute when Smith was woefully short with a pass-back, allowing Tyler to nip in and round keeper Robertson before slipping the ball into the vacant net.

Cumnock began the second half brightly with Arron Connolly beating a couple of defenders before hitting a decent effort, which Robertson did well to parry around his post. Then Chic Connolly drove wide from inside the penalty box. At the other end only a timely tackle by Wallace prevented Gormley’s run on goal.

Cumnock had a good claim for a penalty turned down when Aaron Connolly went down in the Rabs box, but referee Irvine only awarded a corner kick. Rabs continued to squander chances. In the 65th minute from a Gormley cross Doyle blasted over the bar when in perfect scoring range then substitute Easton, with only the keeper to beat, dragged his shot past the post before Doyle lashed a shot high over the bar.

Both sides had chances to grab all three points in the final 10 minutes with Alan Lindsay’s long-range shot held at the second attempt by Waterson and Nock’s Tyler sending a 25-yard effort just over the bar.
