Kirkintilloch team celebrate win over league champions
HARESTANES travelled to Motherwell to take on the confirmed Premier League champions, beaten finalists in the West of Scotland Cup and Scottish Cup finalists.
Colville Park.............. 2
Harestanes................. 4
To date, they had not lost a league match. To guarantee themselves a relegation-avoiding play-off, Harestanes had the minor task of beating them. As the night progressed, an excellent and engrossing encounter was played out.
Harestanes started well and carried the play to Colville. There were early chances at both ends, but it was Harestanes who took the lead in the sixth minute. Cawley sent a long ball forward to Broadfoot, he carried into the box, drew the keeper and slipped beyond him and into the net.
Good play by Tulloch set up set up another chance. McRae received and sent in for McDonald to come close with a header. Wilson denied Colville an equaliser when he palmed out an acute shot from the left. In the thirty-third minute Harestanes went two up. Tulloch sent in a telling ball, Marshall sneaked in between everyone to rise and head in. Minutes later the Hares went three up. McRae supplied the ammunition for Welsh to drive a sweet ball low into the corner.
Going into the second half Harestanes appeared to have the game sewn up and continued to dominate play, but failed to add to the score. Marshall did have the chance from the penalty spot but, uncharacteristically shot a foot wide.
Colville pulled one back when they managed to scramble a stramash over the line, then shocked Harestanes when they scored again from the penalty spot. Harestanes then went further ahead when McCafferty raced on to a through ball from
Broadfoot to send low under the keeper. In the eighty-sixth minute Colville were denied when Wilson made a great save from a penalty.
Harestanes last game is again against Colville at home on Monday next. A victory would avoid a play-off.
