Kirkintilloch side into cup quarter finals after hald-time ‘hairdryer’

HARESTANES reached the last 16 of the West Cup with a mixed performance against their Easterhouse opponents.

Harestanes................. 4

Millbeg.................... 1

In the first half Hares were all over the place. They gave Millbeg far too much room, their play was ineffective and they ended up one down.

The second half was a different story. Coach McClelland must have given an inspirational half-time rant! They torn the opposition apart going down the wings, took the sting out of any forward play and coasted to victory.

Millbeg actually came close to taking the lead in the first minute – a low shot from the right went narrowly wide. In the 12th minute they took the lead from the penalty spot with a well-placed ball into top left. Harestanes almost equalised towards the end of the half with a deflection which skiffed off the right-hand post.

Harestanes’ new resolve was apparent from the start of the second half and within six minutes they drew level.

Black found McDonald wide right and he sent a precise low shot into the far left. Five minutes later, Harestanes take the lead. McDonald scored with a wonder shot, again from the far right, into the top left.

McCafferty came close to a third with a header from a Currie cross which was headed off the line. A similar strike to McDonald’s second then rattled off the bar.

Cawley then supplied an excellent cross for McClune to net with a great header.

A blustering strike from Cawley then brought a good save out of the keeper.

Wilson, having a relatively quiet day, had to look sharp to block a rare chance for Millbeg. McDonald wrapped things up when he netted a McRae ball to claim his hat-trick.

Harestanes Tote – one winner received £100.
