Memorial trophy success as Bishopbriggs side host tournament

WEST Park United hosted their inaugural Jan Price Memorial Trophy at Petershill Park last month.

Despite indifferent weather throughout the day, a large crowd were treated to some fine football from the hosts and their opponents from the Glasgow and District League: Westerton, Albion Rovers and Maryhill Juniors.

West Park and Maryhill advanced to the tournament final following victories in their final group games. United opened the scoring through Ward, but Maryhill stormed back to emerge victorious with goals from Bentley (two), Darcy, Fury and Donachie to take the trophy. Player of the tournament was Nathan Ward of West Park (team pictured below).

Club President Scott Raeburn said: “The event was a great success and was enjoyed by all the participants. Our congratulations go to Maryhill on a well deserved victory and a big thank-you for all the donations made on the day to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.”

Results:

Group Stage: Albion 0-4 Westerton; Maryhill 1-1 West Park; West Park 2-1 Westerton; Albion 2-1 Maryhill; West Park 3-0 Albion; Maryhill 5-0 Westerton.

Final: West Park 1-5 Maryhill.
