On me head son – Dads take on Lads at Lenzie YC

IT was a nail-biting finish in the annual Lenzie 1997 age group Dads v Lads match.

Dads............. 8

Lads............. 8

(Dads won 11-10 on penalties)

The Dads were out for revenge after last year’s penalties defeat! The Lads started strongly and raced into a 4-0 lead, but gradually the “old heads“ took over and they clawed back the goals to go in at half-time equal.

In the second half, with the introduction of Andy Boyle, the Dads got ahead, but a supreme effort by the Lads ensured the game ended all square.

On to penalties and after five it got to sudden death as both goalkeepers found the standard of kicks just too good. It was left to Lads players Euan Dover and Elliot Paice to win it, but their shots went high and wide and they are still in orbit! Revenge is sweet for the Dads...

Hero of the day was Dads goalkeeper Tony Fraser who used arms, legs and even his face to keep the Lads out.

Dads: Fraser, Mackintoch Bell, Fitzpartrick. Hamill, McLaughlin, McLaughlin, Ferry.Johnston, Irvine, Bateman, Dover, Boyle.

Lads: Anderson, Fraser, McKinnon, Paice, Carroll, Faulkner, Irvine, McLaughlin, O’Hare, Dover, Phinn, Hamill, Bateman, Nicol.
