Peasie ready for league cup test

PETERSHILL are hoping to go the distance as they play Benburb in the first round of the Central League Cup on Saturday.

Peasy will take a break from normal league duties to face Benburb at Tinto Park and co-gaffer Scott Smith admits they would like to be in the competition for the long haul.

He said: “This cup competition is a good distraction and we hope we will get a good result.

“Scheduling wise it has come at the perfect time for us and we are ready.

“This time last year they beat us in another cup competition, so we will give them the utmost respect on Saturday.

“This is a competition we would like to do well in.”

Having been knocked out of the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup at the start of the season, Peasy have everything to play for in this cup competition.

Peasy also continued their quest for the league title, taking a point at Petershill Park on Saturday against Irvine Meadow XI.

Goals from Richie Burke and David Dickson helped seal the second draw in a week for the side who also drew 3-3 against Ayr United during a friendly on Monday at Petershill Park.

Saturday’s game finished 2-2.

Smith said: “It was a cracking game on Saturday, end to end stuff.

“Irvine are one of the best junior sides and we have taken four points out of a possible six from them this season.

“We have come very far since last year and you have to be chuffed about that.”

Kick-off on Saturday is at 2pm.
