Kirkintilloch Rob Roy head down the coast to Troon on Saturday looking to repeat their home win over the Ayrshire side of a fortnight ago.

Stuart Maxwell’s side edged through 2-1 in a league encounter at Guy’s Meadow thanks to two late goals and the Rabs boss is expecting another tight encounter when the teams clash this weekend in the second round of the West of Scotland Cup.

And he admits his side’s recent surprise exit from the Scottish Junior Cup has made a run in the West even more important for the club.

He said: “You want to have a good cup run because it’s good for the supporters and it also gives the players a break from the league.

“And the fact that we’re out of the Scottish means that we really want to do well in the West.

“It will be a tight game. There was very little between the sides two weeks ago and I don’t expect it to be any different on Saturday.

“But we go there in a positive mood. They players are confident after a good start to the season and know that on their day they are capable of beating anyone.”

Rob Roy’s match at Arthurlie on Saturday was called off but they remain four points clear at the top of the Super League Premier Division.
